Her spearheading efforts led to the building of the Park City Park and Playground, the Martin Luther King, Jr. She was a charter member of the Alabama Council of Social Studies the Local, District and State Chairman of the Student Action for Education member of Mobile County Education Association, Alabama Education Association, and National Education Association Eastern Shore Affordable Housing Secretary Park City Water Board Member and member of the Park City Sunshine Club and Community Civics Club. King’s fraternal, civic, educational, community involvement included the following: Daphne Pride Chapter #387 Order of Eastern Star serving as Marshall and Associate Matron Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Beta XI Chapter as Chairperson of the Future Iota Girls and Second Vice President of the Sorority. After thirty years of influencing, inspiring and guiding children, she retired and left a lasting light in the Mobile County Public School System. During her tenure at LeFlore, she taught Social Studies, served as Social Studies Department Chair, Senior Class Sponsor, and a Staff Representative on the Superintendent Advisory Board. Later, she taught at Toulminville High School, now known as John L. She was a Teacher and Principal at Hodgewood Junior High School in Toxey, Alabama and a Social Science and Physical Education Instructor at Mobile County Training School and Mattie T. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Education from Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama and her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. King attended Clark County Training School. King worked many years within the church with joy and dedication. Sis King later joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Daphne, Alabama under the leadership of the Rev. Pleasant Baptist Church in Choctaw County, Alabama. She was 88 years old.Īs a child, she accepted the Lord as her Savior and united with the Mt. King, affectionately known as “Momma”, “Sister” and “Granny,” departed this earthly journey on Thursday, January 23, 2020. She was the fifth child and only daughter born to this union. Sister Arcola King was born in Womack Hill, Alabama on Januto the late Fred and Hardley Bend. Now, she is in a dwelling where her humble and sincere worship shall never end. Precious time was set aside to fellowship with Him. She was disciplined in her studies in knowing that it was for her benefit. She spent time in prayer and studying His word daily. Arcola Bend King knew that putting God first meant dedicating her life to serve Him in spirit and in truth.
